“Hi, I’m Dow Jones, Sally’s spread betting accomplice.”

“When Sally was writing Bets and the City, I told her, ‘Your readers need a break from all that financial stuff! So tell them about ME, and all the fun we have hanging out with celebrities in Primrose Hill.’

Fortunately, she took my advice, so even if you’re not really interested in spread betting, the book’s a great read in a Bridget Jones meets Wall Street kind of way.

I'm in Sally's very best books right now. Click here and see the blog post dated April 23rd to find out why!

My new book Bets and the City is on sale now!
Essential reading for all spread betters.

“Equally entertaining if you’re saying ‘Spread What?’ but fancy amusing yourself with the laugh-aloud story of one woman, her dream of making a fast million, and a dog called Dow Jones.”

BETS AND THE CITY IS A
BEST SELLER!
A personal thank you to everyone
who’s bought the book

It was Working Lunch that did it.

Despite the fact that presenter Adam Shaw broke his computer and my front door. And despite – or maybe because – my spread betting inspiration Dow Jones upstaged us all.

I had no idea that the programme would have such a tremendous impact. More than 400 of you have emailed. Sorry if you haven’t had a reply yet; there’s only one of me, and I’m answering as fast as I can.

Some time during the early hours of Saturday April 20th, Bets and the City reached No.102 on the general list of ALL books sold on Amazon. At which point, they sold out – blowing my chance of getting into the Hot 100.

Even so, I am now allowed to say the book’s an Amazon best-seller. At the time of writing it’s:
  • No 10 - of 157,711 titles – in the Economics Best Seller Chart
  • No 7 in Personal Finance Best Sellers (Ahead of Rich Dad, Poor Dad 2!)
  • No 3 in Investments and Securities Best Sellers
  • No 2 in Investing Best Sellers
  • No 1 in Gambling Systems and Theories (my dad would be so proud!)

Missed me on Working Lunch
because YOU were working?
If you missed Working Lunch’s three-part mini series about the phenomenal rise of spread betting in general, and Bets and the City in particular, fear not! You can still see what happened when Sally met Adam:
  • Dow Jones growling at the presenter
  • Me caught in my anorak at 7.30am (which they promised they wouldn’t show)
  • Presenter Adam Shaw breaking his computer just before the markets open
  • Adam doing his Phone A Friend routine because he didn’t prepare a trading plan
  • Me becoming Adam’s secretary and placing his trades (Wasn’t going to let him break MY computer, too!)
  • The final reckoning – in which, to everyone’s surprise, Adam discovers that even he can make money spread betting

HEAR ME TALK ABOUT SPREAD BETTING RIGHT THIS MINUTE!
Here’s a tip.... when the people at Fool.co.uk are kind enough to buy you lunch before doing a podcast, it’s not a great idea to eat the marketing director’s food by mistake. Sorry, Sharon, but I really did think those prawns were meant for me. Anyway, interviewer David Kuo – a Chelsea fan, but otherwise very nice – retaliated with his first question: “What’s spread betting?” YOU try explaining it in 30 seconds! After that, the conversation gets better. You can listen by clicking here.
